Privacy

PetrolNearby is run by Pinoybites LTD (United Kingdom), the controller of the personal data described here. Searching for fuel prices works without an account; an account is only needed to keep a fuel logbook in sync. This notice is a working draft pending legal review before public launch.

Your location

We only ask for your location when you choose “Use my location”, and we explain why first. Your device sends approximate coordinates (rounded to about 10 metres) with that search so we can measure distances. We don't store them, add them to analytics or include them in our server logs.

Postcodes

When you search by postcode, it is sent to our server, which looks it up using postcodes.io to get coordinates. We don't keep the postcode or write it to our logs. postcodes.io receives the postcode from our server, not your device.

Stored on your device

We remember your last chosen fuel type and your advertising preference in your browser or app storage. You can clear this at any time in your browser or device settings, or change your choice on the preferences page.

Server logs and security

Our servers keep short operational logs (for example, request times and error counts) to run the service reliably and prevent abuse. Logs exclude search coordinates and postcodes. Requests are rate-limited.

Accounts and your logbook

If you create an account we store your email address, a securely hashed password (none if you sign in with Google or Facebook), your unit and currency settings, and the vehicles, fill-ups and costs you add to your logbook. We use them only to provide your account and sync your logbook across your devices. Sign-in sessions expire after 90 days without use. We keep your data until you delete your account.

Signing in with Google or Facebook

If you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Facebook”, that service tells us your email address and an account ID so we can sign you in. Google or Facebook may show your name and profile picture on their consent screen, but we don't store them. We never receive your Google or Facebook password, we don't post anything on your behalf and we don't share your data with them. We don't sell personal data or use it for advertising.

Delete your data

You can delete your account and all its data at any time: open the app or website, go to Settings, then Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent and removes your email address, sign-in methods, sessions and logbook from our servers. You can download a copy first with “Export my data” in Settings. Step-by-step instructions: delete your account and data.
If you signed in with Facebook, you can also remove PetrolNearby in Facebook under Settings and privacy, Settings, Apps and websites; with Google, under your Google Account, Security, Third-party connections. If you can't sign in, ask us to delete your data through the contact page and we will do so within 30 days.

Advertising

Advertising is currently switched off and no advertising cookies are set. If we introduce advertising, we will ask for your consent first where required and you will be able to change your choice at any time.

Directions

The Directions button opens Google Maps (or Apple Maps on iPhone) with the station as the destination. Those services have their own privacy policies.
